How much does as session cost?
Cost is based on an hourly rate and depends on where you live and your individual requirements. Please contact me to make enquiries.
Reports and other administration work (by arrangement) is charged at the same hourly rate.
How long is a session?
Sessions are a minimum of an hour. I find that most are able to cope with this length of time as for those who fatigue quickly there are other interventions we can do which supplement physical activity, such as relaxation, sensory input work, planning of home exercise/activities.
Most common is an hour session. Some people prefer a longer session of 90 minutes/2 hours is preferred to allow time for stretches and active work to gain maximum benefit.
How often are people seen?
This varies depending on each individual’s requirements. We find initially most people benefit from being seen weekly or even twice a week. Then as things improve tailing off to less frequent sessions such as monthly or quarterly.
Some people are seen for only two sessions, assessment/setting of exercises, and one “checking” treatment to review success and alter exercises as necessary. Sometimes people self refer back at a later date should the need arise.
Do I need any special equipment?
No there is no need. I bring my own equipment and use the furniture in your home. Often we use the kitchen work surface area for standing exercises as this provides a firm safe environment for you to work. If you want to have your own equipment incorporated into your treatment sessions then I am very happy to do this.
I find that working in your own environment aids you to carry over the new skills and exercises shown into your everyday life.
Do I need other family members/carers to be present?
I find that if you have someone who is willing (and you are happy) to help with exercises/movements between and after treatment then it is beneficial for them to be there. Often being in the session greatly aids understanding of your needs and allows more effective support.
That person may take videos or notes to aid memory of exercises and activities.
Sometimes having others present can be a distraction and make giving your full concentration difficult. In this case it would be better for some to have at least part of the session on a one to one basis.
Although, of course, if you would prefer to have someone present throughout each session then that would be fine.
What is the best environment?
In your own home where you feel comfortable and relaxed. Ideally somewhere which is reasonably quiet (no TV or radio) where you can feel relaxed and concentrate easily.
